Gunna releases his first single since being released from jail in December of 2022. ‘Bread and Butter’ is Gunna’s response to all the backlash he has been receiving for his controversial plea deal in the ongoing RICO case against Young Thug’s Young Slime Life (YSL) collective.
Produced by Turbo, Omar Grand and Cam Griffin, Gunna comes with his classic melodic flow addressing those who have labeled him a snitch. Confirming his loyalty to Young Thug while also admitting his plea deal was a mistake. Maintaining his stance that he is not a snitch.
Fuck I pay the lawyers all those mills for?/ Just so I won’t have to say a word to dodge a railroad,” he raps, before maintaining he didn’t cooperate: “Never gave no statement or agreed to take no stand on ’em/ On whatever you n-ggas on, then trust me, I’ma stand on it/ Lawyers and the D.A. did some sneaky shit, I fell for it/ On my Ps and Qs because this time, I be prepared for it.”
The Atlanta native also confirms that the ATL doesn’t view him and his used to be afiliates the same as the media. Without mentioning any names the most obvious target is his Drip Too Hard collaborator Lil Baby and Lil Durk.
Peepin’ shit, I’m seein’ n-ggas fall back/ You bitch-ass n-ggas got me as the topic of the chat/ You switched on me when you know you in business with a rat/ And the boy that’s like your brother, and nobody speak on that,” he spits.
“The city see it clearly if I had to state a fact/ You still fuck with a n-gga that done got yo’ partner wacked/ Had these n-ggas talkin’, only knew ’em ’cause of Slatt/ You rap boys need more streams, heard he put my name on wax.”
Lil Baby was one of multiple rappers who unfollowed Gunna following his plea deal. Gunna appears to be referencing the recent allegations against Lil Baby’s label boss, Quality Control Music co-founder Pierre “P” Thomas. Earlier this year Jake 1090 revealed alleged paperwork from May 2010 appeared to show the rap mogul cooperated with local police and answering questions about a shooting that killed his friend. With critics accusing the QC CEO of snitching.
Reasons behind speculation of Lil Durk being a target is an unreleased song that surfaced online where the Drill Music survivor can be heard taking shots at his ‘What Happened To Virgil’ collaborator.
“What happened to Virgil? He probably gon’ tell / I let him go because Timo ain’t selling / Thank 7 and Booka, I’m bragging on Melvin / When lil boo and them mad, it ain’t nothing you can tell them / I can tell you what I did for the streets / You got the paperwork, did it and reached / I got on Clubhouse and got in the beef” he raps on the song.
Fans are speculating whether Lil Durk dissed Gunna in a new snippet 🤔
