Lil Wayne Old Lyric Notebook to be Auctioned for 5 Million

Imagine buying a used car that still had some belongings in it from the previous owner. In discarding these items you come across a notebook. Filled with lyrics to songs you recognize. What would you do with this new found discovery?

Lil Wayne’s lyric notebook from the ’90s is now officially for sale for $5 million, following a lengthy ownership dispute that was resolved earlier this year. This is a significant increase from its initial listing price of $250,000 five years ago.

Moments in Time, the company overseeing the sale, defended the high markup of Lil Wayne’s handwritten song notes to TMZ, arguing that Lil Wayne is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time, which significantly enhances the notes’ value.

In 2019, Moments in Time tried to sell the notebook belonging to Lil Wayne on behalf of a man who claimed to have found it in a car once owned by Cash Money Records. Lil Wayne objected, demanding the return of his work, with his attorneys sending a cease and desist letter to Moments in Time, stating they had no right to sell the lyrics. They also accused the individual who found the notebook of deception and opportunism in trying to profit from it.

The individual argued for “finders-keepers,” asking the court to recognize him as the rightful owner and to stop Lil Wayne from trying to intimidate him. Despite the dispute, Lil Wayne did not respond to the claims, leading the court to rule against him.
