At first listen I couldn’t help but think of how much this kid sounds like Kendrick Lamar. That is until Kendrick starts rapping. The fact that he’s Kendrick Lamars baby cousin it kind of makes sense. Before hearing the album but after seeing the “Family Ties” visual, I saw a tweet that said “Baby Keem sound like one of Kendrick’s voices that escaped &; grew its own body”and I died laughing. But songs like “Issues” and “Gorgeous” he slips out of that sounds and gives us a taste of his true identity. The vocals are smooth yet still lit. At this point he’s starting to fit in with rappers like MadeinTYO as well which is two totally different lanes in Hip Hop. Seems as if he’d spazz on a track like “Uber Everywhere” but could still harmonize a little bit and get as lyrical as Kendrick as a plus.

The one thing I hate about this album is the one thing I actually love. There has got to be some science behind the order of tracks in hip hop that enhances a fans listening experience. Track #3 always seems to be the track that sticks out the most to me on most albums that i actually enjoy. If track #3 isn’t my favorite song right off bat something isn’t right. Not to say there aren’t albums that didnt follow this structure that I still so happen to love but it’s all too common for my own listening experience. But track #3 “Scapegoats” was so fxcking raw. The sample caught me early. Making the “That beat nasty” face. Then Keem come in going crazy for all of 30 seconds. Then the beats switches up to some theatrical ass production with a spanish lady speaking and I’m a little mad that the sample went off but this shxt starting to sound hot AF too. Her accent so deep the vibes just felt like netflixes “Narcos” and BAM, it goes off in like 15 seconds. Fam!!!!! You was going crazy my boi. Why’d you stop. Lbs.

“You know I’m borderline more than rich, had to tame the orphanage / Navigated two bxtches, textin’ them the coordinates / Two phones literally, house party loiterin’/
Deals so dummy had to let several lawyers in /One day, I’ll tell you how my life was unfortunate /For now, I’ll tell you how fast these Porsches get”

START THAT OVER!!!!!!! So in my opinion I think the album is dope. I think he will stand out from Kendricks shadow if you choose to listen to the rest of his music. But I do look forward to Kendrick having someone who can go back and forth with him on a track. And this isn’t a case of swagger jacking in my opnion. Ya’ll remeber when we thought Young Thug sounded like Lil Wayne. Now how many sons does Thugger have on his own? Ya’ll remeber the “Oh Ok” song. I remeber thinking that whole song was just Thug and when I found out that Gunna and Baby was on it I was flabbergasted. At that point I hadn’t explored Gunnas catalog enough but I was already a Lil Baby fan. I can remember hearing “My Dawg” and exploring his catalog and not even hearing a similarity to Thugger up until the “Oh Ok” song. So with that being said I believe there is hope for Baby Keem to propser as one of raps next biggest stars.
